MakeUseOf Replier Is Not Hopeful About Recovering Permanently Deleted Email from OSX - "Once emails are gone in Apple Mail (including out of the Trash folder) they are pretty much gone.
You can try data recovery software e.g. TestDisk or Data Rescue but my experience is discouraging at best. With only 20 minutes (in idle) between deletion in Apple Mail and using Data Recovery software we got maybe 1% of over 5000 mails back while it took several hours to perform.
And as always, the more you use the computer in-between the lower the chance of recovery.

First make sure that within the Account settings you set to “Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox” and you set “Permanently erase deleted messages when” to “never”.

If all of this is set you might be lucky and the mailbox is just corrupt. You can check whether there are mails in the Trash by going into “/Users/yourname/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxe/Trash.mbox” and look through the subfolder(s). The easiest way is to use the Finder menu “Go”, then press ALT to make the Library show up and select it.

If there are mails in there copy them to your Desktop or make a backup somewhere else. Then within Mail select the Trash folder and at the top menu click “Mailbox > Rebuild”." From user Jan Fritsch

From Make Use Of: Are You Sure It’s Bricked? How You Can Fix Your Broken Smartphone - "I’ve had a few smartphones and tablets over the years, and one of the things that has always filled me with fear is the possibility that due to some tinkering, I may have bricked the device.

“Bricking” a device is the act of leaving the oblong of plastic and metal largely useless, other than as a paperweight. It’s easily done, so we’re lead to believe, and next to impossible to undo.

Actually, that’s not strictly true. Whether you’re rooting, installing a new operating system ROM or simply installing an app, bricking can occur but it isn’t as difficult to undo as you might think.

Back in the day, a bricked device would be very tough to recover, but over the years some resilience has been built into smartphones and tablets. These days a few clever button presses, useful additional software, a USB cable and a few prayers (the prayers are optional, of course) will sort out many bricking issues.
But as it turns out, you don’t even need to go as far as that!..."

Simple Clear Mac Troubleshooting Suggestions - "It’s safe to say that the Apple Macintosh computer is a great piece of hardware with a fantastic operating system, but it’s definitely not impervious to errors. Sometimes it acts funny, and because continuing on with our day is more important than actually getting something fixed, we’ll ignore it.
After all, it’s a Mac, right? It’s invincible! The god of all personal computers (yeah, right).

Below are a few Mac warning signs to watch out for that should notify you that your Mac has a problem. Some are obvious. Some aren’t. Some are even easy to ignore. In any instance, it’s important to get the computer doctored up right away if these issues sound familiar..."

TopTen Review's 2013 Best Hard Drive Recovery Service Reviews - "Performing regular backups of your data is the best line of defense against catastrophic data loss. Unfortunately, physical damage, user deletion and logical hard drive failure (when the firmware as opposed to the hardware of your hard disk fails) all pose serious risks to your data, and total protection isn't always possible.

Attempting to recover data from a damaged hard drive is a delicate process; if done improperly, you risk permanently losing your data. Irreversible data loss can be disastrous, especially if the files you lose are mission-critical for your business or are irreplaceable, such as family photos. While do-it-yourself recovery applications exist, a hard drive recovery service is arguably the safest and most effective way to recover data from damaged hard drives, as well as servers and other devices. These services have high success rates, with authorized technicians trained to expertly recover data from damaged, failing or corrupted hard drives in state-of-the-art cleanrooms. These cleanrooms are secure, controlled labs designated specifically for data recovery work on delicate hard disks.

Top-notch recovery services such as SalvageData, Secure Data Recovery and DriveSavers offer an array of data recovery solutions for a wide range of data loss situations. To learn more about how these services work, please read our articles on hard drive recovery services."

How to reset user options and registry settings in Word - "This article describes various methods that you can use to reset user options and registry settings in Microsoft Office Word.

There are two basic types of options that you can define in Word. These options are as follows:
Options that affect the way that the program operates. (The information for this kind of option is generally stored in the Microsoft Windows registry.)
Options that affect the formatting or the appearance of one or more documents. (The information for this kind of option is stored in templates or documents.)
When you troubleshoot unusual behavior in the program or in a document, first determine whether the problem might be caused by formatting, options or settings. If the behavior occurs in multiple documents, we recommend that you try to reset Microsoft Word to the program's default settings."
